Seawolf Park Galveston

Hey, y’all.

For those only interested in the vids they are here and here. 😊

Spent last week in Galveston for our annual b-day trip. Didn’t photo every meal or even everything like I normally do. Just wanted to ‘be’ in the moment and all that good stuff. 😊

One thing I did take a lot of pics and some vid of was this tour we did of a WW II sub and ship.

They’re stationed at Seawolf Park in Galveston.

Pappy and Papa B were both in the Navy and the boo was also in the military (different branch) so we decided to take drive out to the park.

I didn’t really expect to get much out of it but it turned out to be really interesting.

To move around you have to crawl in and out of these holes. My thighs are still recovering. πŸ™ƒ

The tables have these game boards painted into them. Papa B said it was just like that on the his Navy ship.

This was the sub’s mascot. Papa B said every ship and sub had a mascot. At first I was like why is this dolphin wearing a sombrero and holding a surfboard? But then I realized it’s a torpedo. You can also kinda see how tight the rooms were. I’m standing at the door taking the pic and that’s the desk with the typewriter. That door closed too. 😲

I think I took pics of every clock and gauge on both vehicles. Papa B’s first ‘job’ on his first ship was to set all the clocks. When we were little both he and pappy had these old timey Navy display things that hung on the wall and had a working clock, compass and atmospheric pressure gauge.

It costs $6 to get into the park and then an additional fee to tour the Navy stuff. There’s also a fishing pier out there and that’s another fee too. Active and former military pay less with proof of service.

There are no guides or anything you just walk around on your own.

I uploaded the videos to youtube here

and here

Moving around both vehicles involves a lot climbing so if you’ve got any issues with climbing up and down stairs or with being in tight spaces you’ll want to think twice about going inside.

Overall though I highly recommend touring both.

Even though my fam served on ships I found the sub the most interesting. On the ship they have a lot of it locked off where you can just look through the doors or windows. On the sub you can touch pretty much everything. Both had music playing throughout. I liked the sub better because it was playing actual music from the era. Music the sailors would have actually been listening to. She ship was playing patriotic songs that we associate with WW II today but probably would not have been actually playing on the ship at the time. I just thought the actual music added to the experience. I could imagine them sitting at those table playing checkers or cards with the music of the day playing over the speakers. (Y’all know I’m all about the music at all times.) πŸ˜„

Christmas Time In…Texas?

Hey, y’all. πŸ™‚

Hope you’re safe and warm in your corner of the world.

Things are still a little rough here.

This month I’m on Cipro for the mastoid bone infection.

Last month was straight up hell.

The meds are just destroying my digestive system.

In better news…

Tree’s been up for weeks. If you’ve followed me for a while you know I’ve been searching for my forever tree for the last few years. This is it. πŸ™‚ I love it so much.

It snowed in South Texas last night. So pretty…but this summer girl says thanks for visiting…you can return to wherever you came fromΒ now. πŸ˜‰

Because of the stomach issues there’s just no way for me to do keto or even low carb right now. Combined with the steroid shots I was up 20 pounds the last time we met. Now I’m only up between 8 and 10 depending on the scale (or I guess time of day). I don’t weigh at home but at all these different Dr. appointments I’m holding right there between 8 and 10.

I’m ok with that for now. Considering in my past when I’d lost asΒ much weight as I’ve lost over the last 15 months…the first taste of sugar and I went off the deep end gaining it all back plus some. This time I went up some and then got it going right back down in the right direction.

Before / current comparison. (Yes…wearing Santa leggings as pants…because they are pants.) πŸ˜‰ Same dressing room. I shop very little at Penny’s but I like to run in there every now and then to take a current pic in the same dressing room as the before. It really helps me when I see how much less of the door is covered by my body. πŸ™‚

Ok That’s all for today. Hopefully I’m going to start doing some Christmas baking next week. I’ll share here or on insta whenever I get started with that. Until then y’all stay safe and warm and I’ll see you soon. πŸ™‚
